F5E2 — lid lock
The washer can't lock the lid. Something in the way, or a lid lock that needs replacing. Whirlpool's first step is clearing the area and unplugging for 5 minutes.
F9E1 or Ld — long drain
Draining takes too long. The drain hose pushed too far into the standpipe, a kink or clog, a blocked pump — or too many suds.
Sd or Sud — too many suds
Non-HE or too much detergent. The washer adds rinses on its own; it's not a broken part.
Not spinning
Lid or door not closed, an unbalanced load, a gentle cycle that spins slowly on purpose — or the lid lock, drive or motor.
Won't fill or fills slowly
Valves, kinked hoses, clogged inlet screens, then the inlet valve.
Shaking and walking
Unlevel feet on an old floor, a single bulky item, or worn suspension parts.

Check the drain hose before you book
Whirlpool asks for the drain hose to go no more than about 4.5 inches into the standpipe. In NYC apartments it's often shoved much deeper, or the washer was pushed back and kinked it. That alone triggers long-drain codes — check it before you book.

What does F5E2 mean on a Whirlpool washer?
F5E2 on a top-loader means the washer can't engage the lid lock. Make sure nothing is in the way, close the lid and unplug the washer for 5 minutes. If F5E2 comes back, the lid lock usually needs replacing.
What do F9E1 and Ld mean?
Both are long-drain codes: water takes too long to pump out. Check that the drain hose isn't kinked or clogged and isn't pushed more than about 4.5 inches into the standpipe. Too many suds can cause it too. If the hose is fine, the drain pump or a blockage inside is next.
